Oma vene on vielä keskellä lumipenkkaa ja akku on kotona, mutta onhan niitä veneitä firmallakin. No, kyseessä oli toki duunikeikka. UNIS:illa pyörii paljon tulevia arktisia luonto-oppaita koulutuksessa ja kevään ohjelmaan kuuluu viikon hiihtovaellus asiakkaiden kanssa. Opaskoulutettavilla on omat pienemmät ryhmänsä, jotka sitten vaeltavat päivän "omillaan". Opettajat vaeltelevat milloin minkäkin ryhmän kanssa neuvomassa. Kun päivä alkaa lähestyä loppua, niin ensimmäinen ryhmä valitsee hyvän leiripaikan ja muut sitten saapuvat aikanaan telttakylään. Ja telttakylästä on tosiaankin kysymys: kaikki eivät mahtuneet kerralla Polargirl-laivan kyytiin, joka voi ottaa 90 matkustajaa! Niinpä 11 opaskoulutettavaa ja 1 opettaja lähtivät meikäläisen kyytiin etukäteen etsimään hyvää rantautumispaikkaa. Lunneja, pikkuruokkeja, kyhmyhaahkoja, hylkeitä ja tietysti myös mursuja näkyi.
The students in the Arctic Nature Guide programme were heading out to their spring season trip. During this trip, the students are the guides of a small group of customers. My understanding is that the price the customers pay to join to trip is quite reasonable. At least, filling the passenger ship M/S Polargirl completely with 90 passengers was not a problem. However, some "leftoevers" needed a boat ride with a UNIS boat. And that boat needed a driver, of course. The sea ice in front of the glacier was thick, but there was a lot of soft and wet snow on top of the ice. Fortunately, we found an excellent spot to land people onto the shore. It took a while to transport 102 pulks from the ship to the shore, btw.
