Aurinko on toki jo jonkin aikaa valaissut tuntureiden huippuja, mutta sitä päivää juhlitaan, jolloin auringon säteet valaisevat vanhan sairaalan portaita. Itse sairaalastahan ei ole jäljellä kuin nuo em. portaat. No, joka tapauksessa tänä vuonna "soldagen" osui lauantaihin ja väkeä oli paikalla vaikka kuinka paljon. Virallisella H-hetkellä aurinko oli tietysti pilvessä, mutta 15 minuuttia myöhemmin piti laittaa aurinkolasit päähän.
Iltapäivemmällä oli sitten vuorossa vuotuinen mäenlaskukisa "Ta sjansen!", jossa omatekoisilla vempeleillä lasketaan mäkeä sekä mahdollisimman nopeasti että tyylikkäästi. Oli hylkeennahkatakkia ja jääkarhua ja muuta sellaista.
The airport meteorologist was a bit afraid of saying anything about the cloud cover for Saturday, the 8th of March, 2025. The big question was, of course, whether there are clouds that block the Sun exactly when we should get the first rays hitting the staircase of the old hospital. In the end, there were clouds, indeed, but after about 15 minutes' wait, we could all welcome the Sun to Longyearbyen.
Afterwards, there was the annual "Take your chances!" event where both speed and style were critically judged before the winners were announced.
