Ajaa huristelin tässä päivänä eräänä observatoriolle korjaamaan laitteita. Lunta on mäellä niin paljon, että normaali kulkupeli on telakuorma-auto, jolla on muuten ihan hauska ajaa. Ainakin lyhyitä matkoja. No, siinä vaiheessa, kun parkkeerasin vankkuria takaisin autotalliin, huomasin, että ihan kaikki ei olekaan niin kuin pitäisi. Lähtiessä bankussa oli neljä telaa ja nyt niitä oli jäljellä enää kolme: takavaunun vasen tela oli jäänyt matkalle. Se löytyi myöhemmin observatorion edestä. Uuden parisataakiloisen "renkaan" asennukseen tarvitaan useampia hydraulisia tunkkeja ja kolme miestä. Ei olisi helppo operaatio tehdä maastossa, mutta näköjään kolmellakin telalla voi ajaa jonkin matkaa ilman, että sitä edes huomaa.
Another normal day in the mountains, or so I thought. I drove to the observatory to fix a few things. As usual the first part of the journey is with a car while the last bit across the snow needs a beltwagon (or snowmobile if one is not walking). Only three of the four belts in the beltwagon made it back to the garage. After the annual service our mechanic at UNIS had noted that one of the belts might go, but it might also be just fine for the next two seasons. Well, it was good for two weeks. It takes a couple of hours of work by three persons to install a new belt.
