Lumi on pehmeää ja, vaikka sitä alkaakin olla jo joka puolella, sen läpi uppoaa nk. pohjaan saakka. Alamäessä löytäisi varmasti kaikki kivet, mutta jos kantaisi sukset pahimpien kivikoiden yli, niin jäätiköllä olisi kyllä mukavasti puuteria. Nyt mukana oli yksi Nooran vierasluonnoitsijoista, jolla ei ollut suksia edes matkassa, joten suunnattiin Longyearbreenin jääluolalle. Luolat on yleensä joko suunnilleen samanlaisia tai sitten kokonaan erilaisia aikaisempiin vuosiin verrattuna. Tässä luolassa ei oltu käyty aiemmin, joten meni vähän seikkailun puolelle. Löytyi todella isoja jääkiteitä ja kummallisia muodostelmia. Ja monta paikkaa, joihin ei todellakaan halua mennä (tai joutua).
We started the ice caving season by finding our way into the ice cave in Longyearbreen. We had spotted the entrance/exit a couple of weeks ago but had not any caving gear with us. Well, now we had helmets and microspikes/crampons in the backpacks, so there was no choice about going in or not. We found some gigantic ice crystals, got the gloves (and trousers) completely dirty and spent quite a long time exploring and wondering the cave. Then somebody suddenly remembered that it is Saturday, so the journey to the next destination -- Huset and Lørdagsbiff -- was expedited.
