Tromsø

Tulipahan käytyä lyhyellä keikalla Tromssassa. Siellä oli paljon parempi sää kuin täällä Longyearbyenissä (paikalliset sanoi et lähes "påskevær"...) Tromssassa oli kaikenlaisia eksoottisia lintuja kuten variksia ja harakoita. Isolokkeja on täälläkin ja kuulema haahkojakin on jo näkyny kotivuonon maisemissa.

A short trip to Tromsø: a good opportunity to check whether I need new glasses or not (no need to update) as well as buy new strings for the bass guitar... The new mobile phone from work takes better photos than the previous one, but I think I still prefer a real camera.

Hiihtokauden avaus / Trollsteinen

Sääennustus toteutui, joten eilinen suksivoitelu ei mennyt hukkaan. Perinteiseen tapaan laitettiin sukset jalkaan ulko-ovella ja suunnattiin tunturiin. Eihän tuo aurinko vielä kovin korkealla ole, mutta olipahan ainakin kylmää ja kaunista. Trollsteinin rinnekin oli varsin mukavassa kunnossa...

The first "topptur" with skis this winter can be summarised in two words: beautiful & cold. The summit ridge towards Trollsteinen was quite windy (and the snow icy and windpacked), but the downhill to Larsbreen was veeeery nice. Being the first trip with skis this season, there were bits and bobs missing or simply in wrong places in the backpack. More days on skis required!

Pilvisten päivien sekaan mahtui yksi todella hieno ja tyyni päivä, joten oli ehdottomasti järkevää lähteä observatoriomäelle. Piti oikein ottaa aurinkolasit mukaan, kun niille ei vielä ole käyttöä Longyearbyenissä.

The Sun is above the horizon again. While the sunglasses were not strictly speaking at all necessary, wearing sunglasses is a sure sign that it's time to start thinking of skiing...
