Duunikaverilla Stefanilla on paljon nälkäisiä koiria, joille kelpaa mainiosti sekä turska että hylje. Tässä tarjoutui mainio tilaisuus lähteä hieman pidemmälle veneretkelle kahdella veneellä. Tankki täyteen ja sitten nokka kohti Ekmanfjorden-vuonoa, jossa oltiin viimeksi kajakeilla. Vuonon ylityksessä oli jonkin verran aallokkoa ja järkevä matkavauhti meikäläisen veneellä tuntui olevan runsas parikymmentä solmua. Tällä vauhdilla vuonon toiselle puolelle pääsee noin tunnissa. Jäätikön edessä meri oli jo jäässä ja paksummissa kohdissa loikoili aika paljon hylkeitä. Ja siellä, missä on hylkeitä, on tietysti myös jääkarhuja...
A colleague from work is an old Svalbard-hand and he and his wife like to dog sledging. This means, of course, that there are always hungry dogs around. When the dogs are pulling the sledge in winter temperatures, each dog needs about 1kg of food per day. So, one seal will be good quality and locally produced dogfood for 1-3 weeks depending on the size of the seal. In any case, a longer boating trip sounded like an excellent idea. The funny part here is that we went to watch a documentary film "Ishavsblod" (Trailer in youtube) on Friday. So, first we watch a movie about seal hunting in the Arctic Ocean and then we join a seal hunt on the following day.
